Dulip Samaraweera banned for 10 more years by CA in addition to the initial 20-year ban for inappropriate behaviour.
Dulip Samaraweera has been handed another ban after allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards a second player while coaching.
After being determined to have acted inappropriately towards a female player. Samaraweera was already banned from all Australian cricket activities for 20 years. Since then, she has been accused of more misbehaviour.
The second issue is his time spent working for Cricket Victoria as a private coach. Samaraweera has been banned for ten years for violating the sport’s code of conduct. Although he has rejected the allegation and declined to take part in the investigation.
He will still be unable to return to any coaching position with Australia or a state or territory body until 2044, when he will be 72 years old, as the ban will be implemented concurrently with his original 20-year punishment.
As far as AAP is aware, neither complainant has chosen to press criminal charges at this time.
Before stepping down in May, he had been a part of Cricket Victoria’s women’s program for nearly 16 years. This including as a long-time assistant coach for the Melbourne Stars of the WBBL.
Former Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins had earlier called Samaraweera’s actions “a betrayal of everything we stand for” and “utterly reprehensible” following the release of CA’s preliminary investigation’s findings in September.
“The victim in this case has demonstrated incredible strength of character and courage in speaking up,” Cummins said after the initial charge. “She will continue to receive our ongoing support to allow her to achieve her goals on and off the field.
“From an organisation perspective, the safety and wellbeing of everyone at Cricket Victoria is paramount. We will not tolerate any behaviour which compromises that position, or our people. We will always support our culture of speaking up.”
