Dyche backed by the Friedkin Group after takeover given the go-ahead.
In his first meeting with Everton’s new owners, Sean Dyche claimed to have the Friedkin Group’s support. However, he acknowledges that in order to stay in their long-term plans, he needs to produce a better second half of the season.
After TFG’s takeover completed the day before. The Everton manager met Marc Watts, the club’s new executive chairman, on Friday. During a tour of the club’s Finch Farm training base, Watts spoke to the whole playing squad and spent about forty-five minutes with Dyche. He will be one of TFG’s delegates to Sunday’s Everton vs. Chelsea home game.
Although there won’t be any extravagant expenditure in January due to profitability and sustainability standards (PSR), Dyche asserted that Everton’s new owners understand the challenges he has encountered during his nearly two years in command and back him. The 53-year-old acknowledged that only wins will persuade TFG to keep him on board for the 2025–2026 transfer to Everton’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
“You’ve got to win games, that doesn’t change and I’m well aware of that,” said Dyche. “They mentioned that during this period of buying the club they’ve done a lot of homework and they understand the challenges that I’ve been through and we’ve collectively been through. Apart from the obvious challenge of winning games they’ve got absolutely no reason to question it [Dyche’s job]. He [Watts] said you can go and tell them that. He said, ‘We’ve got no reason to question you. Every reason to support what you’ve been doing and hopefully support it further going forwards’.”
“The obvious caveat is what I’m saying, not what they’re saying – I know you’ve still got to win games,” Dyche added. “While you’re winning games, hopefully, you continue to build a relationship. And that’s when they go, right, you’re our guy or you’re not our guy.”
