Edwards expresses disappointment with England’s batting and hopes to unleash Ecclestone and Linsey on India.
Edwards ‘disappointed’ but not ‘concerned’ by England’s batting.
“What collapse?” Charlotte Edwards made a joke.
At the 2025 Women’s World Cup, England has won three of their last four games and is undefeated. Additionally, they will play an underdog India on Sunday after suffering losses to Australia and South Africa.
If you ignore England’s batting problems, which their head coach has been attempting to address, it’s a good place to be. In Indore, Edwards stated, “Seriously, in a tournament like this, you have to forget about things quite quickly,” the night before the game versus India.
In their most recent match against Pakistan, England was 78 for 7, and they were fortunate to split the points when rain stopped play in Colombo. “We’ve obviously reviewed that last game, but we are not dwelling on that,” Edwards stated. “India is our main target, and we’ve known since the summer how difficult things will be for them at home.
“It’s exciting to be here tomorrow in front of a massive crowd, who I’m sure will be supporting India. There’s just this real sense of excitement around our group and not thinking too much about what’s happened.”
The bat’s susceptibility to swing bowling is one of England’s worries. In Guwahati, Bangladesh’s Marufa Akter took advantage of that by dismissing Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont. She also nearly dismissed Heather Knight, who ended up winning the match. Fatima Sana and Diana Baig of Pakistan caused the initial damage at the Premadasa stadium this week, starting a small trend.
“I am not concerned,” Edwards said. “You have days where it doesn’t go particularly well. I’m disappointed, probably, that we didn’t adapt quick enough, but I’m certainly not concerned. You have got to move on quite quickly in tournament cricket. If you look at South Africa in the first game, they were bowled out for 70 [69] and have played brilliantly since.”
