In the second ODI between England and Australia at Headingley, Leeds, on September 21, England’s veteran spinner Adil Rashid made history by claiming his 200th ODI wicket.
England captain Harry Brook won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rashid’s milestone moment came in the 28th over when he dismissed Glenn Maxwell.
Bowling a full delivery on off-stump, Rashid outfoxed Maxwell, whose mistimed slog sweep was caught by Jacob Bethell at deep mid-wicket. This crucial wicket left Australia at 161/6 and secured Rashid’s place in the elite 200-wicket club.
Rashid achieved this milestone in just 131 innings, making him the third-fastest spinner to do so in ODI history, following Saqlain Mushtaq (101 innings) and Shane Warne (124 innings).
Australia, after a promising start from openers Matthew Short and Travis Head (46-run partnership), faced regular setbacks. Captain Mitchell Marsh’s solid 60 off 59 balls provided stability, and Alex Carey added a vital 74 off 67 balls, helping Australia reach a competitive 271.
Brydon Carse led England’s bowling attack with three wickets, while Rashid, Bethell, and Matthew Potts claimed two each, and Olly Stone took one.
