An MRI scan revealed that England’s left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone had a small damage to the joint adjacent to her collar bone. Prior to Wednesday’s (October 29) ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final against South Africa, she will continue to be evaluated.
The England cricket team is hopeful that she can recover in time and play in the match despite the setback.
“Results of an MRI scan on Sophie Ecclestone’s left shoulder indicate a minor injury to the joint next to her collar bone. She will continue to be assessed ahead of Wednesday’s ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final against South Africa,” the statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board read.
Ecclestone has been essential to England’s advancement to the semifinals. Tied for fifth place in this competition with colleague Linsey Smith, she has taken 12 wickets in 6 games at an economy of 3.98.
After winning five games and sharing points with Pakistan following a washout, England finished second in the standings with 11 points.
