Enzo Maresca plays down Chelsea’s title prospects after a very positive start to the Premier League Season this year.
Enzo Maresca has played down any talks of a potential title challenge from his Chelsea side this season.
Chelsea has been on a winning run lately in the last few games. Their 4-2 victory against Gent in the Conference League was their 5th straight win in all competitions. They have shown a free-scoring streak as well, plundering 17 goals in those 5 games.
Their positive form in the Premier League sees them sitting pretty in 4th place. With just one loss so far, they are 1 and 2 points behind Man City and Liverpool.
Yet Maresca has preached caution as Chelsea hope to continue their positive run by winning their sixth straight game.
“I really don’t think we can compete with City or Arsenal. I really don’t think that because we are not ready,” he said. “The reason is that City has worked with the same manager for nine years and Arsenal five years. If you want to compete for big things you need that time.
“After Arsenal beat PSG they asked Luis Enrique and he said the same thing. Imagine us, three months … so it’s a huge difference. So I am pretty sure we cannot compete with those clubs. The target is to improve and slowly, slowly to get closer to those clubs but at the moment we are not ready for that.”
He was then asked about how long will it take for the Blues to reach the levels of their rivals,
“There is no time frame because you can continue to improve and add solutions to things always. But in the end the more time you are together. The better things are because you can know each other. They can improve. It is about this.”
