[Saba Sports News] A former All-Star guard continues to excel long after his retirement. As reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Jameer Nelson has been elevated within the Philadelphia 76ers organization. At 41, Nelson is poised to take on the role of general manager for the Delaware Blue Coats, the G League affiliate of the 76ers.
Originating from Pennsylvania and an alumnus of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Nelson boasts a 14-year NBA career, playing for six teams between 2004 and 2018. His most notable tenure was with the Orlando Magic, where he played for ten seasons, earned an All-Star selection in 2009, and played a key role as the starting point guard in the Magic’s NBA Finals appearance that year.
Following his retirement in 2018, Nelson started his off-court career in the 76ers’ front office, initially as the assistant GM for the Blue Coats. Over the years, he has made significant strides within the organization, including a stint as a team scout, leading to his current promotion.
Nelson, who averaged 11.3 points and 5.1 assists per game in his playing days and was known for his humorous on-court antics, is now carving out a successful path as a basketball executive.
