FA charge Mudryk over failed drug test that could see the Ukrainian get banned for a minimum of four years.
FA charge Mudryk and he could face a lengthy ban following doping offenses.
After giving a positive A sample last year, the winger may face a four-year ban under FA standards. It is thought that Mudryk’s system contained the illegal performance-enhancing drug meldonium.
The Ukraine international was placed on interim suspension as he and Chelsea awaited the findings of a B sample, and he hasn’t played since last November.
An FA spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of the FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.” Chelsea declined to comment.
Following his temporary suspension, Mudryk engaged Morgan Sports Law to handle his case. The business defended Paul Pogba, a former midfielder for Manchester United and Juventus, in his appeal against a four-year doping ban that the court of arbitration for sport lowered to 18 months.
Mudryk denies intentionally disobeying any regulations. He reportedly had a negative test in August of last year and hasn’t altered his lifestyle since.
Mudryk said on Instagram last December: “I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance. This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.
“I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.”
Mudryk, who paid £62 million to join Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, is battling to save his career. He has been unable to train with his colleagues or at Chelsea’s Cobham base due to the conditions of his interim ban.
When he travelled alone to Wroclaw to witness Chelsea defeat Real Betis in the Uefa Conference League final last month, the 24-year-old created a commotion. Although he was able to participate in the festivities after the game, Cole Palmer now has his No. 10 shirt.
