FIR registered against RCB and its partners over stampede chaos that saw 11 people lose their life and multiple injured.
Police file FIR against RCB after deaths of 11 fans.
A first information report (FIR) has been filed by the Bengaluru Police against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team for the stampede that killed eleven persons and injured numerous more during the celebration of RCB’s IPL victory on Wednesday.
According to the Bengaluru police’s FIR, they refused the RCB permission to hold the events at Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the stampede that resulted in injuries took place. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), which oversees the Chinnaswamy Stadium, DNA Entertainment, the franchise’s event partners, and RCB were named as the first accused in the FIR.
Girish AK, a police officer from the Cubbon Park Division, made the allegation that led to the filing of the FIR. 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115 (voluntarily causing harm), 118 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means/weapons), 132 (assault or criminal drone to deter public servants from discharge of their duty), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 190 (unlawful assembly) are the six sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita that were mentioned in the report.
According to the FIR, Bengaluru police stated that their staff had been on duty in the vicinity of the stadium until 5:30 am on June 4 after RCB’s triumph since it was challenging to control a sizable throng the next afternoon.
“Permission for the event at the stadium was denied. Despite this, KSCA, RCB, and DNA went ahead with their plans and ignored the police’s instructions.”
“On June 4, the RCB team arrived at Vidhan Soudha for the felicitation ceremony, which went smoothly despite a huge crowd. Around 5:30 pm, the victory parade began towards Chinnaswamy Stadium. Police provided security at the stadium, but KSCA, RCB, and DNA failed to plan how the crowd would be allowed in. The stadium holds only 30,000 to 35,000 people, but lakhs of fans had gathered outside. At 3:10 pm, the gates were opened, and chaos broke out. There was a stampede. Police officers and VIP security struggled to rescue the injured and send them for treatment. Sadly, 11 people died, many were injured, and police had to disperse the remaining crowd outside”.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will look into what caused the stampede, the Karnataka government said Thursday. Following the incident, Siddaramaiah ordered a magistrate’s investigation and mandated that a report be submitted within 15 days.
In addition to paying for all of the injured people’s medical bills, the state government and RCB announced that the relatives of the deceased will receive INR 10 lakh in compensation. In order to better regulate public meetings, festivities, and gatherings of any kind, the government is also thinking of releasing new operational procedures.
For a reaction, RCB has been contacted.
