[Saba Sports News] The Irish Football Association
recently made an official announcement regarding the departure of head coach
Stephen Kenny, which has led to the open recruitment of a new coach for the
national team. According to local media reports, Irish football legends Roy
Keane and Mick McCarthy are popular candidates for the position. However,
former Premier League Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor expressed his
opinion in a recent interview, stating that he believes the Irish Football
Association should carefully consider the selection of candidates. Agbonlahor
stated that he does not view Keane as a suitable candidate. Agbonlahor cited
his personal experience of working with Keane during the 2014-15 season at
Aston Villa when Keane served as an assistant coach. Agbonlahor described
Keane’s coaching methods as radical and harsh towards players. He believes that
Keane’s management style is not effective with today’s players and would have
counterproductive effects. Therefore, Agbonlahor believes it is unlikely for
Keane to become the manager of the Irish national team.
