Former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou in line to replace Nuno Espírito Santo at Nottingham Forest.
Nuno Espírito Santo was dismissed of his duties early on Tuesday morning, and Ange Postecoglou is the front-runner to take over as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach.
Despite winning the Europa League final, Tottenham fired the Australian at the end of the season. However, they struggled at home, placing 17th in the Premier League.
In recent days, Postecoglou and Forest have been in discussions about taking over. Postecoglou, who is of Greek descent, already has a personal relationship with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, and he was keen to get back to the Premier League as soon as possible since he felt he had unresolved business in England after leaving Tottenham.
Nuno’s departure felt inevitable since he said his relationship with Marinakis had deteriorated over the summer. “I cannot say that is the same, because it’s not the same,” Nuno said. “The reason behind it, I don’t know … I think everybody at the club should be together but it’s not the reality.”
Nuno had a falling out with Edu, Forest’s new head of global football, since he was frustrated with the length of time it took to finish moves during the window. Nuno going public angered Marinakis, who thought about cutting off contact with the head coach sooner but ultimately decided to wait until international week. Nuno received the news from Ross Wilson, Forest’s sporting director.
“Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach,” said a club statement in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
“The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024-25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club. As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”
