Frank warns Tottenham ‘not a quick fix’ after ‘very bad performance’ at Forest.
According to Thomas Frank, Tottenham’s 3-0 loss at Nottingham Forest served as a sobering reminder that his team is still a “work in progress.” In the face of mounting criticism, the head coach reaffirmed that turning around Spurs is “not a quick fix,” saying, “If no one gets the time, no one can turn this around.”
Since Frank took over as manager in June, Spurs have been inconsistent. Despite only six points separating them from Chelsea in fourth place, they are currently in mid-table in the Premier League following a run of just one victory in seven top-flight games. At the City Ground, Spurs managed just one shot on goal. Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice, and Ibrahim Sangaré’s spectacular first-time goal completed the win.
Asked whether he felt confident he would be afforded time to revive their form, the Dane said: “I can’t see why not. I think it’s pretty evident that if no one gets the time, no one can turn this around. This is not a quick fix. Today was a very bad performance. No two ways about that, but also know that to change this, this will take some time. No one will want to hear about that, it’s just reality.”
Guglielmo Both of Hudson-Odoi’s goals seemed to be Vicario’s fault, but Frank defended his goalkeeper’s position in the first when the Italian made a quick pass to Archie Grey under siege from Sangaré, who then grabbed possession and set up Hudson-Odoi. For Hudson-Odoi’s second, a cross-shot from the left wing, Vicario was severely exposed.
Asked if he had an issue with Vicario’s role in Forest’s first goal, Frank said: “No … I think you see that every week in the Premier League and from every team all over the world. So there’s no problem with that. Mistakes like that happen. When things are going against us we need to keep doing the right thing and keep our cool heads.”
