[Saba Sports News] Gennaro Ivan Gattuso was officially
appointed as the head coach of Marseille, and he recently held his first press
conference since taking charge. Marseille fans are known for their passionate
support, and despite finishing third in Ligue 1 last season, the previous coach
Igor Tudor faced criticism from the fans and eventually resigned. Similarly,
the intense fan pressure led to the resignation of former Marseille coach
Marcelino Garcia Toral this season. Acknowledging the fervent atmosphere,
Gattuso stated that he is not intimidated by it. Currently, Marseille sit in
eighth place in the French Ligue 1 standings with two wins, three draws, one
loss, and nine points. Gattuso expressed that their goal is to secure a spot in
the Champions League. He also revealed that his contract includes a clause
related to qualifying for the Champions League, indicating that his job future
is contingent on Marseille finishing in the top four of Ligue 1. If they fail
to achieve this, Gattuso stated that he will depart from the club.
