Gautam Gambhir set to miss the two-day Canberra warm-up game against Australia Prime Minister’s 11 on Nov 30.
Gautam Gambhir will not be a part of India when they take on the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra in a two-day tour game starting on November 30.
For personal reasons, Gambhir has left the team to be in India. Gambhir will return to the team prior to the upcoming Test, which will take place in Adelaide from December 6 on a day-night schedule, according to a BCCI spokeswoman. Although it will be a day game, the pink Kookaburra ball will be used for the tour match in Canberra.
After being thrashed 3-0 at home by New Zealand, India pulled off a spectacular comeback to take a 1-0 lead in the series. In Gambhir’s absence, assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel will share leadership.
Rohit Sharma, India’s full-time skipper who had been on paternity leave for the first Test, returned just as Gambhir was leaving, giving the team more strength. Since KL Rahul successfully returned to the top of the order under trying circumstances while Rohit was out, his return to the starting lineup may raise some challenging questions about the combo.
India will need to free up two spots in the batting lineup if Shubman Gill, who missed the Perth Test due to a fractured thumb, also returns to full fitness. Since there is still time before the next game, there is currently no update on Gill’s recuperation. With assessments growing more frequent as training days and the Adelaide Test draw near, he is probably going to miss the tour game.
