[Saba Sports News] Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s connection with the Kolkata Knight Riders is a fairytale. He led them to two IPL titles and maintains a strong relationship with the franchise and its owners.
However, Gambhir is no longer part of the Knight Riders, having retired from playing and joined the coaching staff of the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023. He recently shared a picture with legendary actor and KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, praising SRK as the “king of hearts.”
In response, Kolkata Knight Riders player Nitish Rana, who led the team in IPL 2023, hinted at a potential homecoming for Gambhir in Kolkata, calling them “true kings in their own fields.”
In recent months, fans have expressed their desire to see Gambhir as KKR’s coach. The team had a disappointing IPL 2023 season, finishing seventh in the standings and missing the playoffs.
While players like Rinku Singh, skipper Rana, and spinner Varun Chakravarthy showed promise, it wasn’t enough to secure a playoff spot, with Kolkata winning only six of their 14 games.
