Gavi ruled out for 5 months after knee surgery following an injury suffered during training in early August.
Due to knee surgery, Barcelona midfielder Gavi may miss five months of the season.
Before hurting his right knee during a training session in August, the 21-year-old played in Barcelona’s first two games of the season.
There were concerns that the 2023 anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) damage the Spain international had experienced might have returned.
Gavi had surgery to repair torn cartilage even though the findings of the MRI showed he had avoided an ACL tear.
“Gavi has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus,” a Barcelona statement read.
“Recovery time is estimated at around 4-5 months.”
When Gavi made his debut in 2021, he became the fourth youngest debutant in Barcelona history.
He has won five titles and scored 10 goals in 155 games.
In November 2023, while playing for Spain on international duty, he tore his ACL, which prevented him from playing for 11 months.
With one game remaining, Barcelona is five points behind rivals Real Madrid in second place in La Liga.
