Georgia Voll will replace Chamari in UP Warriorz WPL roster with the latter leaving midway to link up with Sri Lanka.
Georgia Voll has been confirmed as UP Warriorz’ replacement player for Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu. The latter will be missing the final phase of the WPL owing to national duties.
Only until February 26 was Athapaththu expected to be available for UPW’s match against the Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru, which they lost.
The opening game of the season for UPW will take place in Lucknow on March 3. The first of three ODIs and as many T20Is will take place in Napier the following day, marking the start of Sri Lanka’s visit of New Zealand. Athapaththu has therefore missed all five of UPW’s games this season.
Voll made her debut against England in January, however she has only participated in three T20I matches. Before that, though, she was the second-highest run scorer for the Sydney Thunder in the WBBL 2024–25, scoring 330 runs with a strike rate of 144. Thunder advanced all the way to the WBBL Challenger, where they were defeated by Brisbane.
In just her second ODI, against India in December of last year, Voll struck a century. With 173 runs at an average of 86.50, she had concluded the series as the series’ top scorer. Voll pays INR 30 lakh (about US$34,350) to join UPW.
With two victories thus far, UPW is presently ranked fourth out of five teams in the WPL points standings. The Deepti Sharma-led side will have to find wins quickly if they are to make the playoffs.
