Gerald Coetzee receives ICC sanctions for dissent in the 4th T20 international against India in Johannesburg.
Gerald Coetzee, a fast bowler for South Africa, was given a demerit point and 50% of his match fee after it was determined that he had displayed disobedience during Friday’s fourth Twenty20 International match against India in Johannesburg.
After one of his deliveries was declared a wide in the 15th over of India’s innings, Coetzee was observed to have made an improper remark to the umpire. He acknowledged the offence and agreed to the penalty, which included a formal censure. The series had been won 3-1 by India.
Both Oman seamer Sufyan Mehmood and Netherlands captain Scott Edwards were sanctioned for violating the ICC code of conduct during Saturday’s third Twenty20 International between the two teams at Al Amerat.
Articles 2.8 and 2.2, which deal with “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match,” were the two violations Edwards was found guilty of.
He presented his bat to the umpire after being declared out lbw. He then threw his bat and gloves on the pitch on his way back to the dugout, earning a total of two penalty points. 10% of his match money was also fined to him.
In addition, Mehmood received one demerit point and a 10% fine for sending off Netherlands batsman Teja Nidamanuru. There was no need for a formal hearing because both players acknowledged their transgressions and agreed to the penalties suggested by match referee Neeyamur Rashid.
Netherlands went on to win the series 2-1.
