Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has had enough of the constant speculation surrounding his personal life. In a rare and candid statement, the 25-year-old batter made it clear that he has been single for over three years and is tired of being linked with personalities from both the cricket and entertainment worlds.
Gill, widely regarded as one of India’s brightest batting prospects, said the rumours are “ridiculous” and often involve people he has never even met. “Sometimes it’s so absurd—I’m linked to someone I’ve never even seen or spoken to. I don’t know where this comes from,” he said in a recent interview.
Over the past few years, social media has repeatedly buzzed with reports linking Gill to individuals such as Sara Tendulkar, Sara Ali Khan, and most recently, Avneet Kaur. The cricketer admitted that these stories bother him because they spread misinformation and distract from what he’s trying to achieve professionally. “There is no space in my life to be with someone. We travel close to 300 days a year. It’s just not practical,” he said.
This rare personal disclosure comes amid another successful phase in Gill’s cricketing career. As vice-captain of the Indian ODI team and a top performer for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Gill has carved out a strong position for himself in international cricket. With several tours lined up and preparations underway for the next ICC cycle, he emphasized that his focus remains firmly on cricket.
When asked about how he deals with chants and gossip in stadiums—many of which involve fans teasing him with names of rumored love interests—Gill responded that it’s part of the modern sporting experience. “During fielding or in the outfield, you hear it sometimes. But when I’m batting, nothing breaks my concentration,” he remarked.
His comments also reflect the pressure that public figures face in the age of social media. Even a brief appearance in a public setting with someone can spiral into weeks of gossip, fueled by memes and clickbait headlines. Gill’s straightforward approach—acknowledging the rumors and firmly denying any truth to them—is a clear attempt to draw a line and reclaim his narrative.
While fan curiosity about athletes’ personal lives is nothing new, Gill’s statement sets a precedent for young sports stars choosing to speak openly about privacy and boundaries. He concluded his remarks with a note of hope: “I just want to be known for my cricket. Everything else is noise.”
For now, it seems Shubman Gill is choosing straight drives over distractions.
