Gill’s absence for Guwahati test confirmed with Pant to lead India as former has been advised more rest to avoid recurrence.
Gill’s absence confirmed as he is set to miss Guwahati Test against South Africa.
It is known that if Gill plays so soon, there is a significant chance that his neck spasms will repeat, per medical advise. More rest has been recommended for him. His inclusion in the ODI team for the three games against South Africa beginning on November 30 may also be affected by the development. On November 23, the team for that series is anticipated to be selected.
India will have to select one of Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, or Nitish Kumar Reddy to replace Gill, who is expected to miss out.
After retiring hurt after facing just three balls in India’s first innings, Gill was admitted to the hospital following the second day of the Kolkata Test.
The BCCI announced early on the third day that he would not be participating in the Test going forward. After being bowled for 93 in a chase of 124 on a pitch with uneven bounce, India went on to lose the game by 30 runs. In October 2024, Gill also missed a Test match against New Zealand because of a neck spasm.
