Glenn Maxwell slapped with fine and demerit point on his record after last night’s game against Chennai Super Kings.
Glenn Maxwell, the Punjab Kings all-rounder has been sanctioned with a fine and a demerit point on his record.
Following the match, it was confirmed that the Australian has been fined 25% of his match fee along with a demerit point.
It is unclear as to what was the incident that incurred these sanctions in the first place. No official explanation was given for the sanction by the IPL. However, it has been hinted that it is in violation of clause 2.2 of the IPL dealing with abuse of fixtures and fitting.
Maxwell admitted the charge of the Level 1 offence so no additional action was taken.
A poor IPL for the Big Show
Glenn Maxwell, also known as the Big Show, has not exactly set the IPL on fire. He has been way short of his devastating best and his performances indicate that.
Last night against CSK, Maxwell managed only a single run in his 2-ball stay before being dismissed by Ashwin. His cheap dismissal did not deter Punjab, who ended up with a healthy score of 219, courtesy Priyansh Arya’s century.
With the ball, Maxwell started proceedings by dismissing Rachin Ravindra, getting him stumped by keeper Prabhsimran Singh.
While Punjab have started the IPL in strong fashion, registering 3 wins in 4, they will expect more from Maxwell to maintain this winning run. Maxwell has scores of 0, 30, and 1 with the bat along with 3 wickets while bowling. The hope and expectation is that he will eventually find his mojo as the season goes on. However, it is worth noting that Maxwell is coming of a very poor 2024 IPL. He scored just 52 runs in 10 innings, with 4 ducks, before taking an indefinite break.
Punjab Kings are scheduled to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on Saturday.
