Guardiola calls Ederson ‘our player’ as uncertainty looms with Brazil keeper entering final year of his contract.
Ederson considering Manchester City future but Guardiola insists he is ‘our player’.
Ederson is thinking about his future at Manchester City, and Pep Guardiola is hesitant to let the goalie go until the Brazilian expresses his want to leave and a good offer is made.
City may make a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain if the 31-year-old decides he wants to play somewhere else. The 26-year-old is now free after PSG coach Luis Enrique replaced the Italy No. 1 with Lucas Chevalier, who was acquired from Lille.
Ederson called rumours that he was leaving City “99% fake news” at the June Club World Cup, but he is currently considering a move, with Galatasaray being a possible suitor. The city has not received any bids and wants him to stay. Guardiola was questioned on Friday about Ederson’s willingness to go to Wolves for their Premier League debut.
“Apparently, yeah,” the manager said. “Ederson didn’t come to me and said he wanted to leave or he has an offer. All the players here are our players and I want them. What’s going to happen in three weeks [before the window closes], nobody knows.”
With the £27 million acquisition of James Trafford from Burnley last month, City now has three goalkeepers who are regarded as first selections, with Stefan Ortega rounding out the squad.
Tottenham is keeping tabs on Ederson’s countryman Savinho. His injury has kept him out of Saturday’s squad, although it is not believed that this would stop a possible transfer.
Guardiola said: “Whether it’s Tottenham in that case or any other club, a player should call the club [if they wish to move]. I am only concerned right now that Savinho will be with us for the rest of the season and hopefully many years because, at 21 with the potential he has, he has to improve in final positions but he is an extraordinary player.
“At the end, as always, the desire of the players is above everything but then they have to find an agreement with the club. If they don’t reach an agreement, the player will be here because the club spends money on those players.”
Guardiola was asked whether he had spoken to Savinho and Ederson regarding their futures. “No. If they want to leave, they will come to me,” he said. “If they want to leave, they will knock on my door.”
