Guardiola clarifies his quote about “harming himself” after his side’s frustrating 3-3 draw against Feyenoord.
Guardiola clarifies his post-match quote about harming himself as his manchester City have now gone 6 games without a win.
The City boss was pictured with a scar on his nose along with multiple lacerations on his head as he came to fulfil his media duties.
It was similar to the scars his side suffered on the pitch as they let slip a 3-0 lead to Feyenoord in the last 15 minutes of the game to eventually draw 3-3.
When reporters questioned Guardiola about a mark on his nose during his press conference, he scratched and stated, “With my finger, my nail.”
“I want to harm myself” was the next statement made by the 53-year-old, who then laughed and walked out of the press conference.
“I was caught off guard with a question at the end of a press conference last night about a scratch which had appeared on my face and explained that a sharp fingernail had accidentally caused this,” said a statement posted on Guardiola’s behalf by his official account on X and Instagram.
“My answer was in no way intended to make light of the very serious issue of self-harm.”
The statement added that Guardiola is aware “many people struggle with mental health issues every day.” He referenced the Samaritans charity to “highlight one of the ways people can seek help”.
City’s five-game losing streak came to an end at Etihad Stadium with a draw against Feyenoord.
But after defeating Southampton 1-0 on October 26, the team has not triumphed.
Guardiola’s club is eight points behind leaders Liverpool. Whom they will play at Anfield on Sunday. They are ranked second in the Premier League and 15th in the 36-team Champions League standings.
