Guglielmo Vicario undergoes ankle surgery after City victory where he sustained the injury after a collision with Savinho.
Guglielmo Vicario has confirmed that he has undergone ankle surgery post Spurs’ 4-0 win over Manchester City.
After colliding with City winger Savinho in the first half, the 28-year-old required medical attention, but he continued to play the entire game as Tottenham won 4-0.
“Sometimes football gives you its highs, and sometimes it challenges you in ways you don’t expect,” Vicario wrote on social media.
“I played 60 minutes at the Etihad with a broken bone in my ankle, giving absolutely everything I had for the team. Unfortunately there was no way around this one. I needed surgery.
“I’m disappointed I won’t be able to help the team for a while.”
Spurs have not set a deadline for Vicario’s recuperation and have stated that the club’s medical staff will evaluate him before deciding when he may start training again.
Since signing from Empoli in June 2023, the Italian goalie has only missed four games, none of which have been in the Premier League.
Fraser Forster, 36, has filled in on all four occasions, notably during AZ Alkmaar and Galatasaray’s Europa League matches and the Carabao Cup victory against Coventry in September.
After defeating champions City at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Ange Postecoglou’s team is now sixth in the Premier League.
With three victories and one loss from their first four games, they are now ranked seventh in the Europa League standings.
Tottenham is summed up by losing Vicario to ankle surgery just 48 hours after defeating Manchester City 4-0.
The fans in north London have already experienced a range of emotions this season, from thrilling victories to heartbreaking losses.
However, Postecoglou lost his most valuable player after what was perhaps his most spectacular away victory over the champs.
After playing just once during an injury-plagued season last year and putting in a few poor performances against Coventry City and Galatasaray this season, there are concerns over whether Forster is still in the Premier League.
Tottenham could lose a pivotal month that could define their season if they don’t make an investment on a top-tier backup custodian.
