West Ham ban half-and-half scarves for London derby against Tottenham.
In an unprecedented move, West Ham has banned half-and-half scarves for their London derby matchup with Tottenham.
The action is one of several heightened security measures intended to keep away fans from entering the home areas of the London Stadium during a potentially tense game.
With additional security precautions for the late afternoon kickoff, West Ham is attempting to offset a number of predicted flashpoints, including the return of Mohammed Kudus, who was purchased by Spurs for £54.5 million in the summer.
Some members of the home crowd have taken issue with the Ghanaian international’s remarks following West Ham’s contentious sale to Spurs, which made him the first player to move between the two teams since January 2011. In a video that Tottenham shared on their X social channel, Kudus states, “I only wanted Spurs.”
Sky Sports will broadcast Saturday’s Premier League match against Tottenham at 5:30 p.m., and there have been rumours that some fans are organising demonstrations against David Sullivan and the other West Ham shareholders.
The east London club said on its website: “West Ham United would like to make supporters aware that enhanced security measures will be in place for Saturday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur. This includes additional checks at turnstiles, restrictions on half-and-half scarves or items illustrating the colours/crests of both clubs and steps to ensure home areas remain for West Ham United fans only.
“We would like to kindly ask all supporters for patience when entering the stadium to allow our staff to perform these checks, especially during the busiest times in the 45 minutes ahead of kick-off.”
