Hannah Rowe replaces Devonshire in NZ Women’s WC squad as the latter had a laceration on her bowling hand in training.
Due to an injury to her bowling hand, Flora Devonshire, a left-arm spinner from New Zealand, will not be participating in the ODI World Cup. The replacement for Devonshire has been approved: seamer Hannah Rowe.
The 22-year-old Devonshire was scheduled to play in her first ODI World Cup campaign when she cut her left hand during a practice. It will take her two to three weeks to recover from her injury.
“We’re all feeling for Flora,” head coach Ben Sawyer said. “She worked hard to earn her spot in this squad and it’s a real shame her tournament is ending early.”
Rowe will participate in her third ODI World Cup after having already played 60 ODIs. She will join the next day and won’t be eligible for New Zealand’s October 6 match against South Africa.
“We’re pleased to be able to call up a senior player in Hannah Rowe,” Sawyer said. “Hannah’s obviously not a like-for-like replacement for Flora, but she offers an all-round skillset and has experience in sub-continent conditions.”
