Harry Kane ‘more than welcome’ back at Spurs, says Frank as club reportedly have buy-back clause next summer.
Harry Kane ‘more than welcome’ back at Spurs but Frank not expecting him soon.
Harry Kane would be delighted to return to Tottenham, but Thomas Frank does not anticipate the attacker leaving Bayern Munich anytime soon.
After scoring another hat-trick for the Bundesliga winners last Saturday, Kane is almost at 100 goals for Bayern. However, Kane has a £56.7 million release clause that might be activated next summer, according to a Monday report from the German daily Bild.
It is believed Spurs do have a buy-back option on the England captain and Frank would be happy to work with the “top player” in the future. “I didn’t know there was a clause,” Frank said. “He is an unbelievable player who did fantastic for Spurs and is doing fantastic for Bayern. Top player. I think there’s a lot of Tottenham fans, including myself, who would like to see Kane back.
“Personally, I don’t think he will do it right now if I’m honest. He’ll probably stay in Bayern and continue performing well. He was top scorer last year, won the championship and he’s doing fantastic now.
“I don’t know what he’s thinking. Myself, I’m a traveller, I like to travel, I like to explore things as well. He’s been here for many years so why not enjoy the time at Bayern a little bit more? But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome!”
Frank’s first priority is Doncaster’s visit on Wednesday in the third round of the Carabao Cup, when Spurs youth hoping to become the next Kane might have a chance. Luca Williams-Barnett, a highly regarded forward, has shown promise this season and scored a hat-trick for the under-21 team in Friday’s triumph over Leicester.
When questioned about the 16-year-old on Tuesday, Frank alluded to a possible bench spot. He has, of course, trained with us a few times, Luca. Stuart Lewis, our transition coach, and the academy both provide me with reliable information.
“I’m well aware of Luca’s talent and I like what I see. He’s young, obviously, but his composure and technique and vision is very good. He’s a player that we like a lot. Let’s see tomorrow, but that could be an opportunity.”
