Pakistan drop Hasan Nawaz from SL ODIs and T20I tri-series.
Hasan Nawaz, a batter, has been removed from Pakistan’s forthcoming ODI and T20I series later this month. Instead, he has been sent to compete in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Fakhar Zaman was called up to the T20I team in his place, but no replacement was nominated for the ODIs.
Nawaz was first identified as a promising potential after he produced a game-winning T20I century against New Zealand at Eden Park in March. As a result, despite multiple mistakes, including five ducks in his first ten games, he was given a prolonged stint in the team.
However, his upside was thought to be higher than almost every other player, and his big hitting ability, particularly in the middle and late stages of T20 innings, was regarded incredibly crucial. His stellar PSL season, in which he led Quetta Gladiators to the final and finished as the third-highest run scorer with a strike rate of over 162, further enhanced that reputation.
However, he has started to be seen as more disposable within the last two months. Hussain Talat, a batter with a far less explosive character, replaced him in the latter stages of Pakistan’s journey to the Asia Cup final this year.
Nevertheless, the way he was dismissed in the first game—charging George Linde on a spinning track and getting stumped—indicated a specific lack of match awareness, and he was not selected for the subsequent games. In a same vein, Pakistan has been having trouble with his T20I performance over the last several months. He has only once scored in double figures in his last eight games, averaging less than seven.
Starting on November 11, Pakistan will play three ODIs against Sri Lanka before starting a T20I tri-series with Zimbabwe on November 17. It will be Pakistan’s first-ever multi-team Twenty20 International competition.
