[Saba Sports News] Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi has backed to his team to come well against the Indian spinners.
Afghanistan will face India on October 11 in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. In their last World Cup match, they got bundled at a total of 156 runs, courtesy the spin duo of Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who collectively took six wickets.
As Afghanistan will next go up against India, who also have the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in their ranks, it would be a big challenge for them.
However, their skipper has showed all his faith on the side to pass this test. Speaking on the eve of the match, Shahidi cited that the Afghanistan batters are habitual of facing quality spin in the nets and that their poor show versus Bangladesh was an aberration.
“You know, we play better spin in the nets sessions. If you see Rashid [Khan], Nabi [Mohammad], Noor [Ahmad] and Mujeeb [Ur Rahman], we play them every day. I think our team is far, far better [than what it showed against Bangladesh in Dharamsala] at playing spin bowling. That game we know we struggled, but [based on] one game, you can’t say you’re not good enough. That game is gone now, and we know we can play spinners better and we’ll try to come back in next game.” Shahidi said as quote by ESPNCricinfo.
Further, Shahidi talked about the fact that crowd will be behind the hosts India and how they would have to overcome this.
“We have the talent and we have the skill to make a comeback in the next game and for the rest of the tournament. India will get a huge crowd support in the game against us, and we have to work through the crowd pressure,” he added.
