[Saba Sports News] Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been setting new records in the current ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, establishing himself as India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in the tournament’s history. Initially, he was on the bench for the first four matches, but he was brought into the playing XI following Hardik Pandya’s injury, and he has been delivering outstanding performances ever since. Shami, aged 33, has managed to take 16 wickets in just four innings, boasting an impressive average of 7 and an economy rate of 4.30.
Recently, Shami’s former wife, Hasin Jahan, was interviewed by a news channel and was asked to comment on her ex-husband’s remarkable performance in the World Cup. She responded, “I don’t follow cricket, and I’m not a fan of cricketers. I don’t understand the game, so I’m not aware of his performance. If he is performing well and contributing to the team, it will benefit him in securing his place and earning more, which will also secure our future. So, there’s nothing better than that,” as reported by News Nation.
When asked to send her best wishes to Shami and the Indian team in the ongoing World Cup, Jahan expressed her willingness to extend her best wishes to India but not specifically to him. She added, “I will certainly give my best wishes to Team India, but not to him.”
It is worth noting that in 2018, Hasin Jahan had accused Shami of domestic abuse, adultery, and even involvement in match-fixing, filing a police complaint in Jadavpur. However, the fast bowler denied all these allegations and continues to battle the divorce case in court.
Earlier this year, the Kolkata High Court ordered Shami to pay INR 50,000 monthly as maintenance to Hasin Jahan and INR 80,000 for their daughter.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami is making history in the ongoing World Cup as he has become India’s highest wicket-taker in the tournament, surpassing the previous records held by Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath, who had 45 wickets each.
Shami has now taken 47 wickets in just 15 matches in the ODI World Cup, maintaining an exceptional average of 12.74 and an economy rate of 4.90, with an impressive three five-wicket hauls to his name.
