Kai Havertz ruled out of Arsenal and Germany games and may need surgery.
Due to an undetermined knee injury, Kai Havertz will miss Germany’s World Cup qualifying matches next month as well as Arsenal’s matchup against Liverpool on Sunday.
Havertz did not play in Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over Leeds on Saturday after suffering the injury while substituting against Manchester United on the first Premier League weekend. According to Mikel Arteta, Arsenal will carry out additional tests “to explore the issue a little bit further and decide what we’re going to do” because they were unsure of how serious the situation was.
Rudi Völler, the men’s national team director of the German football association, has confirmed Havertz will miss their World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland and that surgery remained a possibility for the 26-year-old.
“He certainly won’t make it, he has a knee injury,” Völler said. “We don’t know exactly how it will go in the coming weeks, whether surgery is upcoming or it will be treated conservatively.”
Havertz had a hamstring strain during a training camp in Dubai last season, which kept him out of action from early February to mid-May. Arsenal is said to have pursued their long-standing interest in Eberechi Eze, who might make his debut at Anfield following his £67.5 million deal from Crystal Palace, due to concerns that his most recent injury might result in another protracted layoff.
After suffering a hamstring injury against Leeds, Bukayo Saka is also anticipated to miss England’s World Cup qualifying matches against Andorra and Serbia as well as against Liverpool. The 23-year-old is thought to have avoided the need to consult a specialist, so that is not as serious as first thought. However, Saka will probably be out for three to four weeks.
