Havertz: “Of course, things like this can make you scrambling, but I go through different phases, and often the outside world only sees the negative side. It’s not the first time I’ve started over at a new club. Of course you want to be successful as soon as possible, but I understand there will be phases and I try to look at it in a light-hearted way.”

Havertz: “We went through a very negative period, we are going to host the European Cup in our own country and we want to inspire joy and do everything to make the fans proud and happy again. We’ve had a lot of criticism and although I’ve been confused at times, as a team it’s made us stronger and it’s kept us together. Everyone should be aware that we had no support after the World Cup exit, no support whatsoever, so we had to rely on ourselves. The fans are very important to us as players. You can see that other countries have the support of their own fans and for us it’s missing. I understand the criticism in terms of results, but as a footballer you need the support of the fans at such a bad stage.”
