Hayley skips WBBL due to shoulder injury that she suffered while playing in the recent England white-ball series.
Hayley skips WBBL because of shoulder surgery during the tournament timeline duration.
Hayley Matthews, the Melbourne Renegades’ standout all-rounder, was ruled out of the 2017 season due to shoulder surgery on Thursday, dealing them a serious setback ahead of the WBBL draft. The defending champions, Renegades, had signed Matthews as a two-year pre-draft recruit, but just hours before the draft, it was revealed that she would not be available.
Matthews missed the final two games of the series after suffering a shoulder injury while fielding in the opening ODI against England. After that, she has been playing, including in the home ODI matches against South Africa. She will also play in the next T20I series. In September, she will play for the Barbados Royals in the Women’s CPL before having surgery during the Women’s ODI World Cup because the West Indies did not make it. After then, she won’t be available for the remainder of the year.
“We are clearly disappointed Hayley won’t be with us this season,” Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said. “She’s been instrumental during her time with the Renegades, not just with her performances but with her leadership and professionalism.
“There’s a very close relationship between the Renegades and Hayley and we know it will continue next year and beyond. Hayley loves this club and we share in her disappointment at not being available for this year’s tournament.”
