[Saba Sports News] Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram lauded India’s Jasprit Bumrah after he dismantled England with his ferocious bowling on Sunday.
England lost the match by 100 runs and the architects of India’s victory were their fast-bowlers Mohammad Shami and Bumrah.
Shami danced in the limelight as he took a four-wicket haul but it was Bumrah, who started wreaking havoc on England in the second innings.
Defending 229 runs, Bumrah opened the gates for England’s collapse in his third over as he dismissed Dawid Malan and Joe Root on consecutive deliveries.
He finished the things up by getting rid of Mark Wood, completing a three-for and helping India earn a massive win.
Showering praises on Bumrah, Akram termed him the best bowler in the world right now and even added that the Indian has more control on the new ball, drawing a comparison to himself.
“He is the best in the world right now. Top of the ladder! The control, the pace, the variations, just a complete bowler. A treat to watch. With the new ball, to get this kind of movement on this kind of pitch … pace, carry, follow-through… you name it he’s a complete bowler,” Akram was quoted as saying on A Sports.
“When Bumrah is bowling to a left-hander from around the wicket and hits the ball on the seam… And when he’s bowling from wide of the crease, the batter will think the ball is coming inside. He will play for that angle, but the ball hits the pitch and moves away rather than coming in. Most of the time, you are going to be beaten. When I used to bowl outswingers like that to right-handed batters with the new ball, sometimes I couldn’t control the ball also. But Bumrah definitely has better control with the new ball than myself,” he added.
Further, he joked that the only way right now to stop Bumrah is to steal his spikes.
“The length where he bowls with the new ball is what creates uncertainty for the batters. There’s only one way to put pressure on Bumrah. Steal his bowling spikes. There’s no other cure.”
Bumrah is the second highest-wicket taker in the World Cup 2023 currently, having claimed 14 scalps.
Meanwhile, India extended their undefeated streak, winning six match in a row. They will next face Sri Lanka on November 2 in Mumbai.
