Heinrich Klaasen announces shocking international retirement after being snubbed by CSA annual contracts list.
South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen announces that he is stepping away from international cricket, as he looks to prioritise his T20 league future.
Since he was passed up for central contracts with Cricket South Africa (CSA) in April, the decision had been imminent. Klassen had resigned from Test cricket in January 2024 and was playing solely white-ball cricket until then.
“It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket,” Klassen said in a statement. “It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision but also one that I have absolute peace with.”
One of the most sought-after players on the T20 franchise circuit, Klassen has a deal with the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC) this summer, followed by a deal with the Manchester Originals in The Hundred.
