Hemang Badani appointed as new Delhi Capitals coach ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League season next year.
Hemang Badani will replace Ricky Ponting as the new head coach of the Delhi Capitals.
Ricky Ponting, who recently left the team amicably after seven seasons as head coach, is replaced by Badani. Rao assumes the position that former India captain Sourav Ganguly had for a few years. The DC ownership decided to change the coaching staff and the franchise’s general management structure. It is part of the reason why both appointments were made. The team has never won the Indian Premier League. Additionally, the team has chosen not to extend its agreement with Praveen Amre. He has been a talent scout and assistant coach for the team since 2014.
The operational leadership positions for the IPL and WPL teams of DC’s co-owners, GMR Group and JSW Sports, will alternate every two years as part of the reorganisation. As a result, Ganguly will lead the team in the WPL for the ensuing two seasons (2025 and 2026) as director of cricket.
Ganguly will return to the IPL come 2027, the year JSW Sports retakes the lead. “Key decisions like auctions, captaincy, player release and retentions of both teams will be made by the Delhi Capitals’ board. They will be decided mutually by senior leadership of both groups,” the organisation said in a media statement on Thursday.
Delhi will be hoping to improve on their 6th placed finish last season. The last time they made the finals of the IPL was in the 2020 season in UAE, where they were runners-up to Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians.
The hope is that the new changes made by the franchise will usher in a new era of good cricket and better results from a cricketing perspective.
