[Saba Sports News] A high-security setup has been arranged at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium for the ODI World Cup showdown between India and Pakistan on October 14.
Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police G S Malik revealed the deployment of over 11,000 security personnel from various agencies, including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards, in and around the stadium. While there hasn’t been any communal violence during cricket matches in Ahmedabad in the past two decades, security forces will be stationed at sensitive locations as a precaution.
On October 9, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with top officials to assess security preparations and ensure a smooth event. Malik outlined the security measures, including the deployment of over 7,000 police personnel, nearly 4,000 home guards, three NSG ‘hit teams,’ and one anti-drone team. Additionally, nine bomb detection and disposal squads will be available.
During the match, four senior IPS officers and 21 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officers will supervise security operations. Alongside 13 companies of state reserve police (SRP), three Rapid Action Force (RAF) companies will monitor sensitive areas. An evacuation plan has been prepared, and stadium staff are conducting rehearsals to address stampede concerns.
Reports of a threat to the Ahmedabad stadium and Prime Minister’s safety were received by Mumbai Police, but Commissioner Malik assured that the city’s police are prepared to handle such situations. He emphasized that extensive security measures were necessary for a match with over one lakh spectators and its potential to incite communal tensions.”
