Huijsen signing confirmed by Real Madrid as Bournemouth confirm that the Spanish club has paid the release clause.
Huijsen joins Real Madrid from Bournemouth for £50m.
The 20-year-old will make his debut at the recently expanded competition in the United States after agreeing to a five-year contract.
Madrid stated that former Spain international Huijsen will formally join on June 1st, and both clubs confirmed the transfer.
On June 18, they will play their first Club World Cup encounter against Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.
The sum will be paid in three installments, with a portion going to Huijsen’s two previous clubs: Malaga will get 5% and Juventus will get 10%.
Premier League teams Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle were among those interested in Huijsen, who had up to seven offers on the table.
After deciding on Real Madrid, Huijsen will return to his native Spain, where he played for the youth squad of Malaga and the Costa Unida CF academy in Marbella.
The choice to sign the defender and give priority to acquiring a young centre-back was made in large part by Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, who is expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as Real manager.
Huijsen paid £12.6 million to join Bournemouth from Juventus last summer.
This season, the Netherlands-born defender has made 34 appearances for the Cherries in all competitions, tallying three goals.
With Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also expected to relocate to the Spanish capital this summer, Huijsen will become Madrid’s second Premier League acquisition.
The Netherlands, where Huijsen was born, and Spain, where he grew up, were engaged in an international tug-of-war.
In March 2025, he made his debut for the 2024 European Championship winners against the Netherlands after deciding to play for Spain.
The defender is “ready” for the move to the Bernabeu, according to Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, who gave Huijsen his international debut.
