Hull City set to make new managerial appointment mid-season with Reading boss Ruben Selles set to take charge.
Hull City has agreed to appoint Ruben Selles from Reading.
The Royals manager, who will succeed Tim Walter, who was fired last week, is ready to forgo a League One promotion run in favour of a Championship relegation fight against the Tigers.
The two clubs are reportedly negotiating Reading’s compensation, and Selles’s visa needs to be changed as an international coach.
Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has moved quickly to secure a highly-rated manager who has done well in difficult circumstances in Berkshire.
The 41-year-old Spaniard has led a youthful team into the play-off spots despite having to contend with point deductions, transfer embargoes, and unsuccessful takeovers throughout his tenure with the Royals.
Selles is Hull’s third manager in seven months after Liam Rosenior was fired in May despite the team finished seventh in the Championship the previous season. Hull has also hardly been a picture of stability.
In contrast, Walter won just three of his 17 league games during his little less than five-month tenure.
Selles, on the other hand, has performed better than expected at Reading after failing to maintain Southampton in the top division during his brief four-month stay in 2022–2023.
Despite being docked six points for placing 17th in 2023–24, Selles has led Reading to sixth place in League One, winning nine of their 17 league games.
Selles is anticipated to be in the Hull dugout on Saturday when the resurgent Blackburn Rovers visit.
