Hybrid Model CT25 call to be made by ICC on 26th November in an emergency meeting called by the governing body.
Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy? ICC likely to take call on November 26.
The 2025 Champions Trophy’s future will be discussed during an emergency meeting of the ICC Board next week. Reaching a consensus on whether a hybrid model should be used for the tournament, with matches being distributed between Pakistan, the host nation, and a second overseas destination that has not yet been determined, is the only item on the agenda for the meeting, which is probably scheduled for November 26.
The meeting next week has not been confirmed in any formal communication, according to an ICC representative. At this stage, it is unclear how many boards have been notified of the meeting. Additionally, a PCB representative stated that they have not yet received any such information.
In addition to ICC chairman and CEO, the ICC Board is made up of representatives from 12 Full Member nations. Three representatives from Associates, and one independent director.
The BCCI informed the ICC that the Indian government had refused to allow Rohit Sharma’s side to visit Pakistan. This prompted the demand for the meeting. The PCB was given the hosting rights for the eight-team ODI tournament three years ago, in November 2021. And has been adamant on holding the entire event in Pakistan at three locations: Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. That decision was made just two weeks ago.
Due to the impasse, the ICC has yet to release an official schedule for the tournament. Which is less than 100 days away from its anticipated start date. The PCB, acting as the tournament’s hosts, has scheduled it to run from February 19 to March 9.
Mohsin Naqvi, PCB chair, told reporters in Pakistan that he had “positive expectations” about the Champions Trophy being held there. Even as the PCB waits for the ICC to respond to a series of queries regarding why India is unable to come to Pakistan for the event. Naqvi, who also serves as the head of the Pakistani government’s Interior Ministry, stated that he was open to speaking with the BCCI in order to end the impasse.
Earlier this week the India team was forced to withdraw from the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup held in Pakistan. This after failing to secure the Indian government’s clearance for the squad to travel to Pakistan.
