[Saba Sports News] Australia defeated India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final by six wickets. The victory marked Australia’s sixth triumph in an ODI World Cup as their cabinet is now filled with six trophies.
After the win, Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who played a crucial role in his side’s successful campaign, posed with the trophy under his feet.
Marsh’s actions did not go down well with many netizens. Now, India pacer Mohammad Shami too has condemned this, saying that he is hurt because of what Marsh did.
In an interaction with the reporters on Thursday, Shami opined on Marsh’s hurtful gesture, saying that he did not like the Aussie putting his feet over the trophy that every team fights for.
“I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fights, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy,” Shami said as quoted.
Shami was not India a member of India’s starting playing XI in the recently-concluded World Cup. He was given a spot after Hardik Pandya injured his ankle.
The pacer made most of the opportunities he received, finishing the tournament as the highest wicket-taker despite playing lesser games than most of the bowlers. He bagged 24 scalps in seven games.
