‘I won’t retire but I will take a break’, says Guardiola when asked for his plans post Manchester City contract.
When he departs Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has stated that he will take a break, although he has not yet specified when that may be.
In November, Guardiola agreed to a new contract at the Etihad Stadium, committing to the team for a further two seasons, bringing his total tenure to eleven years.
The 54-year-old seemed to say he would depart City at the conclusion of that contract in an interview with ESPN Brasil, but he then told Sky Sports on Friday that he is unsure of when his time in Manchester may come to an end.
Guardiola, however, stated that he had no plans to retire after leaving City. Guardiola took a year off after leaving Barcelona and before taking over as manager of Bayern Munich in 2013.
“I won’t retire, but I will take a break. What I am saying is when I am finished here I will take a break.”
“I didn’t say I’m leaving now, or the end of season or the end of contract, I said when I finish my time here, be it one, two, three, four, five years I will take a break,” Guardiola told Sky Sports before Friday’s match against Wolves.
Guardiola reflected on his trophy-filled coaching career, which includes stints at the top of Spanish and German football, and said he was sure the fans of the teams he had coached had liked seeing his teams play.
“In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer,” he added. “There are new challenges as a coach, I don’t know what will happen in the future and in the end that doesn’t matter.”
“It has been a year of great learning for me personally,” he said. “I knew there would be a moment when we would fall, but we fell a lot.
“Now we have to sit down and learn to try to understand what we need to produce in the future.”
