ICC Brush Off PCB’s Request to remove Andy Pycroft following the latter’s demand in the aftermath of the Ind vs Pak game.
ICC brush off the Pakistan Cricket Board’s demand to remove Andy Pycroft from the panel of match referees in the ongoing Asia Cup.
This decision comes in the aftermath of the India vs Pakistan game on Sunday that descended into total farce after India emerged victorious in the contest.
PCB’s Complaint against Pycroft
The PCB had lodged a complaint to the ICC almost immediately after the contest with regards to Pycroft.
They believe that the Zimbabwean was the one to suggest to the Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha to not shake the hand of his Indian counterpart at the toss.
The game descended into further uproar as the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake the hands of the Pakistan team. This move, according to the Indian captain was planned in advance, with the BCCI in the loop about the same.
The refusal to shake hands meant that Pakistan refused to send its captain to the post-match presentation.
The base of the PCB complaint against Pycroft was that the match referee was working in the interests of the Indian Cricket Team, which nulls the impartial nature of the match referee’s scope of work.
The ICC’s Response
The ICC, in reply, have officially gone on to refuse the complaint and rejected the proposal to remove Pycroft from his position.
The governing body, in its letter, have rectified and cleared that air around the situation surrounding the entire fiascco.
The ICC claims that the ACC officials, who were present at the ground, had informed Pycroft well in advance that there would not be a handshake between the captains at the toss.
It also went on to rubbish the notion that Pycroft was acting in the interest of the Indian team.
