India name their 15 that see Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav included in India’s provisional 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19.
Harshit Rana will be used as a backup for Bumrah, who might not be fit for the first two games of the bilateral series, when the same team plays England in three ODIs in early February.
Prior to Saturday’s selection, there were concerns over Kuldeep’s and Bumrah’s injuries. Kuldeep had not played competitive cricket since undergoing surgery for a hernia in November, and Bumrah had sustained a stress-related injury during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kuldeep is believed to be bowling 10–12 overs at a time, having been increasing his bowling load at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma will skipper the 15-man team, which also features Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was selected for the first time in ODIs, and Shubman Gill as his vice-captain. For the Champions Trophy, he is probably going to be the backup opener.
