Tottenham’s Champions League preparations rocked by injuries and car crash.
Injuries to Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven, as well as a car accident involving Randal Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert, have disrupted Thomas Frank’s preparations for Wednesday night’s Champions League match at Eintracht Frankfurt.
After images of Kolo Muani and Odobert standing next to a black Ferrari with severe front-end damage surfaced on social media, the Tottenham manager said that they were fine.
It is acknowledged that Kolo Muani owns the vehicle, which experienced a tyre rupture on the highway. Odobert pulled up behind him in a different car to see how he was doing. In preparation for the squad flight to Frankfurt, the players were travelling from the Spurs training facility to Stansted airport. They had to catch a different flight to Frankfurt later on Tuesday night, according to Frank, as neither of them had boarded it.
It was a less-than-ideal detail for Frank, who is under a lot of strain following Saturday’s Premier League tie at Burnley, where he was once more harassed by the Spurs supporters, particularly as he processed Porro and Van de Ven’s failures.
Van de Ven’s injury, according to Frank, is less severe than Porro’s, who will miss four weeks due to a hamstring injury after being substituted off at halftime against Burnley. The manager stated it wasn’t a hamstring, the muscle the centre back had issues with the previous season, but he didn’t say what it was. Van de Ven might make a comeback for Sunday’s league match at home against Manchester City, according to Frank.
Regarding the selection process, Frank had some good news: Pape Sarr was available following illness, and João Palhinha had returned from injury. However, with just 11 outfield players available, the manager is down to the bones of his team.
“Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert are both fine,” Frank said. “Unfortunately they were both involved in a minor accident … everyone else involved in that accident was fine. It was a tyre blowing up and so the two of them are a little bit delayed. But they will land later tonight. I haven’t spoken to them personally yet. The first message is that they are fine and nothing happened. I fully expect both to be available for tomorrow.
“Then, Pedro hasn’t travelled. Unfortunately, he picked up a hamstring injury to be out for four weeks. Micky has not travelled. It’s a minor thing. It’s possible he’s available for the weekend.”
