[Saba Sports News] The England vs. New Zealand ODI series stands at 2-1 in favor of England, with the final match scheduled for Friday, September 15 at Lord’s, London. With the ODI World Cup just weeks away, players are striving to avoid injuries.
However, the intensity of the series decider makes it challenging to hold back on the field. In this context, three New Zealand players encountered injury concerns while fielding in the fourth ODI.
Daryl Mitchell was the first to sustain an injury, hurting his ring finger while taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Jonny Bairstow. Although he received treatment and wore tape, he appeared to handle the discomfort well.
Finn Allen, attempting a one-handed catch to dismiss Joe Root at gully, damaged his finger and had to leave the field.
The third injury occurred to Tim Southee, who injured his right thumb while trying to take a catch off Ben Lister’s bowling. The extent of his injury will be assessed, and as a precautionary measure, Southee will not return to the field for the remainder of the match.
These injuries raise concerns, particularly for Mitchell and Southee, who are part of New Zealand’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
