IPL Tickets to be more expensive after increase in taxes on tickets has been increased to 40% from the existing 28%.
Tax rates on IPL tickets go up to 40%, will be more expensive.
Since the Indian government raised the goods and services tax (GST) on IPL tickets from 28% to 40%, it has become more expensive to watch the IPL from the ground. Originally priced at INR 1000, the ultimate cost of a ticket will now be INR 1400 instead of INR 1280. The IPL, casinos, race clubs, and any location with one of these is now in the highest GST category in India as a result of this hike.
For those attending national international cricket events, there appears to be some relief in store. Tickets to such matches were subject to the same 28% GST rate as IPL tickets; however, this slab has since been eliminated.
Only “sporting events like the IPL” are mentioned in the Press Information Bureau’s most recent circular, which informs of the changes in tax rates. This has been interpreted by business and finance journals as suggesting that other cricket matches may now be considered “recognised sporting events.”
Currently, tickets for other recognised athletic events costing more than INR 500 are subject to 18% GST. GST is not applied to tickets costing less than INR 500. Therefore, in the near future, tickets for international games and other state-run leagues may become less expensive. When taxes are taken into account, a ticket to an international cricket match that has a basic price of INR 1000 now costs INR 1280. The same pricing will drop to INR 1180 with this new modification.
A week before the Women’s World Cup, the next international cricket competition to be held in India, begins, the adjustments will take effect on September 22. The event’s ticket sales have not yet begun. In order to “ensure you are the first to receive the latest news and ticketing information straight to your inbox,” the ICC encouraged fans to “register your interest” by August 30, precisely one month before to the tournament’s opening.
