James Anderson receives knighthood in Windsor Castle ceremony.
At a ceremony at Windsor Castle, James Anderson, the greatest wicket-taker in England history, was knighted by Princess Anne.
After ending his 21-year, 188-Test career at Lord’s in July 2024, Anderson, 43, was included in former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s resignation honours list in April for his services to cricket.
His final total of 704 Test wickets was the highest ever taken by a fast bowler, only surpassed by spinners Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800). Even though he played his final white-ball match in 2015, he claimed an additional 269 in ODIs, which is still an England record.
Following his retirement from international cricket, Anderson played for his home county of Lancashire in the 2024 season. He performed exceptionally well when he returned to T20 cricket after a ten-year hiatus, leading his team to Finals Day at Edgbaston.
In the Hundred, he also secured a wildcard deal with Manchester Originals, and negotiations are underway to extend his county career until the 2025 campaign.
