He responded to the harsh messages with a meme, playfully reminding them that New Zealand, not Australia, had been defeated by India in the semi-finals.

India had beaten New Zealand by 70 runs in the semi-final, reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. At Wankhede Stadium, India, after winning the toss, put up a massive score of 397/4. Mohammed Shami, with his exceptional 7/57, helped dismiss New Zealand for 327, earning the Player of the Match title.
In the final against Australia, India aimed for their third World Cup win but was outperformed in all aspects. Australia, chasing 241, saw Travis Head scoring a remarkable 137, leading them to a comfortable victory and their sixth ODI World Cup title. Head’s century earned him the Player of the Match, placing him among the elite Australian cricketers to score a hundred in a World Cup final.
Virat Kohli received the Player of the Tournament award for his extraordinary performance, scoring over 700 runs. Shami was acknowledged as the best bowler of the tournament with 24 wickets. Despite these individual accolades, India couldn’t clinch the trophy, extending their ICC trophy drought since their 2013 Champions Trophy win under MS Dhoni.
