Jarrod Bowen suffers fractured foot during Liverpool loss as Michail Antonio is released from the hospital following surgery.
Jarrod Bowen faces a potentially lengthy spell out of action after suffering a fractured foot during West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
“West Ham United can confirm Jarrod Bowen sustained a fractured foot injury in Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool,” a club statement read. “The injury to his left foot, picked up in the first half at London Stadium, will sideline the Hammers captain heading into the New Year.”
Despite West Ham’s overall struggles under Julen Lopetegui, Bowen has been a vital member of the team once more this season, scoring six goals across all competitions. His absence is a major setback for the Spaniard, who has been under fire for his role since taking David Moyes’ place in the summer. West Ham, who have only won two of their last seven games, will visit Manchester City on Saturday, the 13th, in the Premier League.
Bowen disclosed that he attempted to continue playing despite suffering an injury in the first half of the match versus Liverpool.
“Unfortunately in the first half of our game on Sunday I suffered a fracture to a bone in my foot,” the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram. “As always I tried to fight on and continue playing until I physically couldn’t.
“Injuries happen in football, but I’m already looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible. See you all soon.”
Meanwhile, Michail Antonio, who is still recovering from a vehicle accident earlier in December, was released from the hospital shortly after Christmas.
After being involved in a car accident in Essex on December 7, the 34-year-old Jamaican international required surgery to treat a fractured lower limb. He is anticipated to need a protracted rehabilitation period.
Before the Irons defeated Wolves, Antonio was able to communicate with his teammates via video conference from his hospital bed. The team and Julen Lopetegui also paid Antonio a visit.
